Nothing Ventured - In Conversation with Matt Jonns, Founder of Founder and Lightning

Matt Jonns, Founder and Lightning, Digitising his family business, Tech startups and non technical founders, Building painkillers not vitamins, Falling in love with the problem, Take your ego out of your idea, šŸ’„PlusšŸ’„ Aarish will be talking live with SeedLegal's Anthony Rose about bringing a CFO into your business

šŸ‘‹šŸ¾ Hey there!

As I may have mentioned (more than once) before, other than my core consultancy business, I also founded a tech venture that ran out of money at the end of Q1 2023.

Whilst I consider myself pretty switched on and can even write a snazzy bit of python that sends a turtle whizzing across the screen, Iā€™d be hard pressed to build anything usable beyond a Wordpress site and a spreadsheet.

What Iā€™m trying to say is that I am the quintessential non technical founderā€¦ someone that knew enough to be dangerous, but not enough to do any damage.

And I made ALL the mistakes that non-technical founders make.

I hired a CTO too quickly, built too soon, validated too late and every other cliche in the book.

Thatā€™s why I was so excited to speak to Matt Jonns, Founder of Founder and Lightning, an agency that invests in and builds tech companies with non-technical founders.

Matt has brought his own experience to the fore and leveraged the learnings of digitising his own familyā€™s business into providing a way for non-technical founders to turn all or part of their business into a digital proposition, hence boosting revenue and potential value.

In a world that had gotten so used to splashy headlines of multi million dollar fundraises, a voice like Mattā€™s provides a great balance and inspiration for lots of founders who would like to level up their business but arenā€™t looking for the billion dollar exit.

In conversation with Matt Jonns - Founder at Founder and Lightning.

I first reached out to Matt in April after we interacted in my comments section on LinkedIn. I really liked the approach he had to building with non-technical founders, and having tried and more or less ā€˜failedā€™ myself, I could see the value in what it was that they were building.

We caught up at the studio, and after a brief play tussle with Benjie, the resident dog, we got stuck right in.
